Creating Fixer Upper Sustainability Through Your Mission

Chip and Joanna Gaines have revitalized downtown Waco, Texas: the Magnolia House, the silos, the bakery company.

Even on weekdays, people line the streets to be a part of what the Gaines are about.

And they're about more than just flipping houses. They have bigger missions in life: faith, family, and entrepreneurship.

They were fortunate enough to get a TV show, yes, which gives them a lot of virality.

But you don't need a TV show to create this. There's so much opportunity across the media platforms for you to show who you are through your mission.

If you're not doing that, you're missing a big opportunity.

So regardless of what practice or business you’re in: Decide what your mission is.

Decide how you want to impact the world in a bigger way, decide what your true core values are, and start speaking those values. Start showing the world.

Get your team on board: What do you do as a great piece of value?

A product or service, absolutely – but what are you really about in life? What do you really stand for and care about?

You've got to speak those truths, and let the chips fall where they may.

Some people will demean you, and you've got to be prepared for that.

If you try to appease everybody and don't stand up for something, then you're nobody. You may do good work, but you've got to stand up.

The Gaines do that, and there’s a lot of people who speak negatively about their Christian faith. They don't care – and it's also not hurting their business at all.

So remember, speak the truth, and stand on your convictions. Don't be afraid to stand out, because that's how you get your message across.

And ultimately, that’s how you build a bigger business, a business that’s not dependent on the economy.
